With the New York Jets left alone as the NFL’s only winless team, the team’s freshly revamped coaching staff is coming under fire.

Teams can fall to 0-5 for a plethora of reasons, whether it’s due to players underperforming, a sheer lack of talent, or poor coaching. The Jets have suffered from all three of these things, but as their struggles slog on, coaching is becoming the most concerning long-term problem.

Many of the issues that head coach Aaron Glenn promised to fix have either been sustained or gotten even worse.

For starters, the Jets’ discipline in the penalty department has seen no progress. After committing 8.1 penalties per game in 2024, the Jets have crept up to 8.4 penalties per game in 2025, tied for seventh-worst in the NFL.

More important than the overall penalty total is the Jets’ inability to eliminate the types of flags that are entirely within their control. They are tied for fourth-worst with 3.4 pre-snap penalties per game, up from 2.9 last season. On top of that, they are tied for the most unnecessary roughness penalties with four.

As ugly as those numbers are, the Jets’ coaching issues go deeper than anything that can be tracked statistically.

When you turn on the tape, you see a team that is getting circles coached around it on a weekly basis. Play calls are being easily predicted by opponents, game plans do not make sense according to each opponent, and in-game adjustments aren’t being made.

Perhaps more damning than anything else, though, is the lack of preparedness displayed by the players.

Despite touting their “good weeks of practice,” the Jets’ players often look like they don’t know what they should be doing. Examples of this were all over the film against Dallas.

These plays reflect poorly on the coaching staff, presenting the question: What exactly goes on at 1 Jets Drive during the week?
