Despite an ugly 13-11 loss to the Broncos in London, in which Justin Fields evoked memories of Zach Wilson, New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn is standing by his quarterback.
Speaking to reporters following the loss, Glenn immediately shut down the question of whether the team will consider a quarterback change.
โWhat kind of question is that?โ responded Glenn. “There are guys who have bad games. That doesn’t mean you just bench him, you know better than that.”
Against Denver, Fields completed nine of his 17 passing attempts (53%) for 45 yards while picking up 31 rushing yards on seven carries. Fields also took nine sacks for 55 yards, bringing him to a net total of -10 passing yards, the worst mark in franchise history.
While Fields’ offensive line certainly could have been better, the Ohio State product continues to hold the ball for way too long, which plays a prominent role in his career-long struggles with taking too many sacks.
For a team still searching for its first win, there are no more excuses. The Jetsโ defense finally delivered a complete performance after a lackluster first five weeks of the season, holding Denver to just 13 points and forcing consistent pressure throughout, only for Fields and the offense to waste it with another lifeless outing.
New Yorkโs offense remains inconsistent game in and game out, while Glennโs refusal to even consider a quarterback change is nothing short of stubbornness.
At 0-6, the margin for patience has evaporated. If Fields continues to drag the offense down and looks lost, Glennโs loyalty could soon become his biggest mistake as a head coach.
