Halloween has yet to hit our calendars, and the New York Jets season is frustratingly familiar. NFL draft talk is heavy, quarterback questions are nonstop, and the validity of the team’s head coach is very much up for debate.
Worse yet, the Jets’ 0-7 record is more disheartening than anything fans have seen in recent memory.
Fans are frustrated, angry, and downright depressed. Perhaps no fan summed up the New York Jets fan experience better than the despondent youngster in this viral video clip, per dandremac at Instagram:
Seeking interviews following the Jets’ Week 7 loss to the Carolina Panthersโby a meager and ultra-boring final of 13-6โthe youngster summed up the misery of Jets fandom quickly yet brilliantly.
Interviewer: “Can I get your thoughts on the game?”
Poor unfortunate soul: “I hate this team. I was born into this, and I’m not going to ever … I’m always a Jets fan, but like … I hate this team.”
Before everybody reading this thinks of calling CPS on the kid’s parents, the odds that you, too, are a Jets fan are incredibly high. Therefore, be careful when playing the role of watchdog so impetuously.
In the end, while it is indeed rough to take on the role of a New York Jets fan these days, a few wise men once believed that such unconditional love (for something so hapless and entirely out of your control) builds character.
The Jets have not made the playoffs since the 2010 season (January 2011), which places them tied with the NHL’s Buffalo Sabres for the longest such drought in American professional sports. Worse yet, the Jets’ next winning season will be their first since the Ryan Fitzpatrick-led 10-6 squad of 2015.
Hang in there, kid. Perhaps the only solace available is the idea that he’s not alone. Many individuals of all ages share those very emotions he feels.
