The New York Jets had collected zero touchdowns and 302 yards over a span of two whole games.

They had benched their starting quarterback, and his backup threw two interceptions in relief.

That same starter was publicly criticized by the Jets’ owner later in the week, only to be thrown back into the spotlight after his backup was sidelined due to injury.

As the icing on the cake, he would have to go out there and play on the road without his No. 1 wide receiver.

The results? 39 points, 502 yards, and the Jets’ first win of the 2025 season.

How could this possibly happen?

On film, the Jets showed a number of promising improvements compared to recent games. Justin Fields delivered some of his best moments as a Jet. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand did a better job of setting Fields up for success, implementing concepts that put Fields in favorable positions.

The standout, though, was the Jets’ blocking, and not just the offensive line. The tight ends, the fullback, and the wide receivers all contributed to an excellent effort in the run and pass games.

Defensively, the Jets reverted to many bad habits after a two-game hot streak. They allowed 38 points and forced no turnovers, although multiple young standouts made critical plays in big moments throughout the second half.

What changes led to the Jets’ offensive improvements? Is the progress sustainable? On the other side, what led to the defensive collapse? And how did the young cornerbacks look against Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins?

We’re here to answer those questions (and many more) in the latest Blewett’s Blitz film review.
