The NFL trade deadline is three days away, and speculation is heating up across the league. New York Jets edge rusher Jermaine Johnson has become a frequent name in trade discussions.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Philadelphia Eagles have called the Jets about Johnson. New York is asking for a second-round pick to consider moving the Florida State product before the Nov. 4 deadline.

“The Eagles need an edge rusher and asked the Jets about Jermaine Johnson. It makes sense, considering former Jets GM Joe Douglas drafted him in New York and is now Philly’s senior personnel director,” Russini wrote. “However, New York has held a high asking price of a second-round pick or better.”

Throughout five games this season, Johnson has been a solid force off the edge, compiling 14 total pressures, one sack, one pass deflection, and 19 total tackles.

Despite the trade rumors, Johnson told Jets X-Factor’s Nick Faria ahead of the team’s Week 8 matchup that he received clarity from the Jets brass regarding his status in New York.

“I’m wanted here and vice versa,” he told X-Factor.

While the Jets appear committed to keeping Johnson beyond the trade deadline and view him as a long-term cornerstone of their defense, every player has a price. According to Russini, New York values Johnson at no less than a second-round pick in trade discussions.

As the deadline looms, the Jets appear to remain steadfast in their stance. Johnson isn’t being actively shopped, but his value within the Jets building speaks volumes about how highly the organization regards his future in New York as he plays out his fourth season in the Big Apple.
