Before the New York Jets kicked off the 2025 season, it seemed the team was comfortable limiting Breece Hall’s touches.

Previously known as the bell cow of the offense, head coach Aaron Glenn stated that the team was moving into a committee approach for the room. That meant fewer opportunities for the former second-round pick.

Those plans have changed drastically.

Partially due to an injury to backup running back Braelon Allen, Hall is averaging a career-high 15.3 rush attempts per game.

Perhaps no game showcased the “workhorse” version of Hall better than New York’s Week 10 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

With the Jets holding to a flimsy three-point lead in the second half, Hall took the reins of the offense, showing why the organization decided to keep him at the trade deadline.

Hall runs Jets to win

Hall finished with 125 yards of offense on 22 touches in New York’s 27-20 win over the Cleveland Browns at MetLife Stadium. His 42-yard catch and run on a screen gave the Jets the game-winning score.

“Heโ€™s our workhorse,” Glenn said post-game. “Thatโ€™s something that weโ€™ve talked about quite a bit. When we needed him, he came through, and thatโ€™s something thatโ€™s not new for us.”

Glenn’s words may not have echoed his original plan for the star running back, but injuries and ineffective quarterback play left him with no choice on Sunday.

During the win, New York saw star wide receiver Garrett Wilson leave with a reaggravated knee injury. In the first half, the Jets mustered -5 net passing yards.

With the passing offense struggling, Glenn turned to the player that had the hot hand, as has been the case all year.

“I trust him with everything,” Glenn said. “I trust the ball in his hands, and when times are tough, he will get the ball.”

Through nine games this season, Hall has recorded 664 rushing yards and 220 receiving yards. He is averaging 5.5 yards per touch, his best mark since his rookie season and the sixth-best rate among running backs with at least 150 touches this season.

According to the man himself, though, his performance on Sunday wasn’t anything special. It was just what the team required to go on a two-game winning streak.

“It was just every game I feel like you come out with intentions of what you want to do and you’ve got to adjust to what’s needed to win the game,” Hall said. “Today, we needed a lot of the run game and a lot of it just happened to be on me today, so it was just falling into what the team needed for us to win.”

Jets’ offensive outlook

New York will need Hall to continue carrying the load for the rest of the year. With Wilson dealing with a knee injury, the Jets do not have consistent weapons to attack opposing defenses outside of their star runner.

In a contract year, Hall’s strong performance is also critical for his own financial future.

Hall’s name has been the center of trade discussions dating back to the 2025 draft. Through it all, the Jets have maintained their intention to keep him on the roster, even when everyone thought he was a goner at the trade deadline.

While there’s no guarantee that the Jets’ commitment to Hall will extend to the 2026 offseason, Hall’s importance to the roster has flashed in the biggest moments of the year.

That won’t be changing anytime soon.
