Already massive underdogs going into their Thursday Night Football duel with the New England Patriots, the New York Jets’ mission just got a lot tougher.

On Wednesday afternoon, the team announced that it had downgraded cornerback Azareye’h Thomas (concussion) and wide receiver Garrett Wilson (knee) to out for Thursday’s game. Neither player practiced on Monday or Tuesday for the Jets.

Thomas, 21, was a third-round pick by the Jets in this year’s draft. The rookie cornerback made his second NFL start in Sunday’s win over the Browns, stepping in for the traded Sauce Gardner.

With Gardner’s starting role vacated, Thomas is expected to start for the remainder of the season when healthy. The Florida State product left Sunday’s win with a concussion when he took an inadvertent helmet-to-helmet shot from a teammate.

On just 126 defensive snaps this season, Thomas has recorded four passes defended. He’s picked one up in three consecutive games, becoming the first player in franchise history to achieve that feat before turning 22 years old.

Wilson is set to miss his third game of the season. The star receiver sat out two games with a right knee injury from Weeks 7-8, returning in Week 10 following the Jets’ bye week, but he left the game with a sprain to the same knee. According to ESPN, Wilson is expected to miss three to four weeks, although he does not require surgery.

Against a Patriots defense that has allowed the sixth-fewest points per game this season, Wilson’s absence is a critical blow for the Jets’ struggling offense.
