After Thanksgiving comes and goes, New York Jets fans know what that means: even more time spent refreshing Tankathon and digging through every new mock draft they can find.

The good news for them? Mock-draft season is only getting started, and itโ€™s about to ramp up fast.

In Dane Brugler’s 1.0 mock draft for The Athletic, he had the Jets making an eyebrow-raising selection, predicting Gang Green will take Arizona State wide receiver Jordan Tyson with the No. 7 pick.

“Who will be quarterbacking the Jets in 2026? General manager Darren Mougey has plenty of draft capital to move up for a QB, but it also wouldnโ€™t be surprising to see New York continue to build up its roster, go with a bridge option under center and target a 2027 prospect,” wrote Brugler.

“Durability concerns are a part of his evaluation, but Tyson reminds me of prime Stefon Diggs with his ability to create space and win at the catch point.”

First off, keep this in mind: mock drafts in early December donโ€™t mean as much as you think. The draft order is nowhere close to settled. The Jets would currently hold the No. 7 pick, but with five games still left on the schedule, plenty can shift before anything becomes real.

As for Tyson, thereโ€™s no questioning his talent. In this mock, he comes off the board as the second wide receiver, slotted right after Ohio Stateโ€™s Carnell Tate, who goes to the New York Giants at No. 4. But the real question is whether it makes sense for the Jets to use a top-10 pick on a wideout.

Wide receiver isnโ€™t exactly a position of strength in New York, but the Jets have far bigger needs at No. 7, starting with the most pressing one of all: quarterback.

As Brugler noted, no one knows who will be under center for the Jets next season. General manager Darren Mougey has a ton of capital to work with, but thereโ€™s also a scenario where the Jets decide to punt the position for another year and wait until the 2027 draft.

In this hypothetical, Oregon QB Dante Moore and Indianaโ€™s signal-caller Fernando Mendoza were long gone by the time the Jets were on the clock โ€” with Mendoza going No. 1 overall and Moore coming off the board at No. 4.

Overall, the truth is that nothing matters unless the Jets land their quarterback, whether it’s this April or next.
