Before the season began, there were legitimate questions about whether New York Jets tight end Jeremy Ruckert had a future with the organization.

Fourteen games into a much-improved season, Ruckert more than proved his worth to the team, and the organization has rewarded him with an extension.

On Wednesday, Ruckert and the Jets agreed on a two-year extension for $10 million, with the potential to increase to $11 million, as first reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Ruckert has set career-highs in receptions (20) and receiving yards (163) while catching the first touchdown of his career. His work as a blocker, though, has made him a key piece to a Jets offense that has been one of the best rushing teams in football.

This is the second extension signed by the Jets in the last two weeks. Starting center Josh Myers signed a two-year deal with the organization for $11 million last week as part of New York’s push to retain their quality pieces for the future.

Ruckert was next on the list.

Other Jets players who could be due for upcoming extensions include returner Kene Nwangwu, kicker Nick Folk, defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, and at least one of offensive linemen John Simpson and Alijah Vera-Tucker.
