The New York Jets’ coaching purge under Aaron Glenn has continued.

After dumping defensive coordinator Steve Wilks during the season and seven more assistant coaches after the year, the Jets are now parting ways with offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Recent reports indicated that the Jets were planning to strip Engstrand of his play-calling duties while keeping him aboard the staff. Instead, it appears that the two sides have agreed to part ways.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Glenn had “multiple chats with Tanner Engstrand about his role moving forward,” but the sides decided to part ways in the end. The Jets will move forward with their search for a new OC.

The only name the Jets have been linked to thus far is former Indianapolis Colts and Carolina Panthers head coach Frank Reich, whose name came up while Engstrand was still on the team. Now, Reich progresses to the front of the line as the current favorite to become the Jets’ new offensive coordinator.

According to Garafolo, Glenn has already “had conversations with veteran offensive coaches about joining the Jets’ coaching staff.” Now, the search begins officially, with an offensive coordinator title being the role in question.

As of Tuesday, Jan. 27, the Jets have opened vacancies in the following roles:

  • Offensive coordinator
  • Offensive pass game coordinator
  • Quarterbacks coach
  • Defensive coordinator
  • Defensive line coach
  • Linebackers coach
  • 3 defensive assistants

With the scouting combine less than a month away, Aaron Glenn has to rebuild nearly his entire coaching staff.
