The New York Jets are throwing money around like Jordan Belfort on the opening day of NFL free agency. As of 2 p.m. EST, the team has signed four players to contracts worth a combined total of $108 million.

Their starting running back has taken notice, and it does not seem to be in a supportive way. Taking to X, Breece Hall reacted to the news of the Jets’ signings by writing, “Damn we sure got a lot of money in Florham Park all these contracts dudes signing,” complete with a trio of crying laughing emojis.

The Jets recently applied the franchise tag to Hall, which forces him to sign a one-year, $14.3 million contract with the team. Reports indicate that the two sides will continue working on a long-term deal, but if that does not come to fruition, Hall’s only option is to sign the tag, unless he chooses to sit out the season.

We can only speculate what Hall meant with his post, but given his contract situation, it seems to suggest he is perturbed watching the Jets hand out multi-year deals to other players after they settled on the franchise tag for him.

Hall’s contract demands likely climbed even higher after today’s events. The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to sign Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker to a three-year, $45 million deal. The $15 million salary exceeds Hall’s tag amount.

Across their four-year careers, Hall has nearly 500 more yards from scrimmage than Walker in two fewer games. Hall also averages more yards per carry (4.5 versus 4.3) and more yards per target (6.6 versus 6.2). The Jets’ former second-round pick has a strong argument to command a more lucrative deal than Walker.

It remains to be seen what happens next with Hall, but it sure doesn’t seem like the franchise tag was a happy resolution, at least in Hall’s eyes. After today’s events, between Hall’s tweet and Walker’s market-resetting deal, the drama surrounding New York’s RB1 will only intensify.
