There is more movement on the back end of the New York Jets’ wide receiver depth chart entering the summer.

Following the May moves of signing Tim Patrick and trading Irvin Charles, the Jets have waived Quentin Skinner with an injury designation while signing rookie WR Jalen Walthall, a product of Incarnate Word.

Skinner was a training camp darling last year, while logging a 20+ yard catch in all three of the Jets’ preseason games, finishing the preseason with eight catches on 11 targets for 114 yards and a touchdown with zero drops while hauling in both of his contested balls.

While spending most of the season on the Jets’ practice squad, he was elevated for the team’s Week 18 game against the Buffalo Bills, where he caught his lone target for 10 yards and converted on a two-point conversion, becoming the last player to touch the end zone at Highmark Stadium. How’s that for a trivia question?

Walthall, 23, earned first-team FCS All-American honors in 2024 at Incarnate Word. Over 40 career NCAA games with Hawaii and Incarnate Word, he hauled in 192 receptions for 2,595 yards and 24 touchdowns.

He signed with the Houston Texans after going undrafted in April’s draft before getting released last week.

Overall, it is a disappointing break for Skinner, who played well last summer and possesses upside as a deep threat in the NFL.

It will be interesting to monitor how many wide receivers the Jets carry on their 53-man roster entering the 2026 season.
