Entering the 2026 season, tight end is shaping up to be one of the New York Jets’ most promising position groups.
Following an encouraging rookie season from Mason Taylor, coupled with the selection of Kenyon Sadiq at No. 16 overall in the 2026 NFL draft, the position is expected to be a strength for the team this year.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Jets head coach Aaron Glenn expressed his satisfaction with the room’s construction.
“We have a really good mix in the tight end room,” he said. “Those guys will do a good job for us.”
While playing with three different quarterbacks during his rookie season last year, Taylor still managed to post a 79% contested catch rate, the second-best mark among qualified tight ends, behind only George Kittle.
Couple that with Frank Reich’s historical tendencies as a play caller, and he has a chance to become the Jets’ go-to target in the red zone.
In Reich’s first season with the Indianapolis Colts in 2018, Eric Ebron posted 13 touchdowns, while Zach Ertz led the Eagles with 12 receiving touchdowns across the two seasons (2016-17) Reich served as Philadelphia’s OC.
On the other hand, Sadiq is expected to play a large role in the Jets’ passing attack right away, and if he can refine his route running and improve his hands, he could become an all-around weapon for the Jets. The good news is that he can be used seamlessly alongside Mason Taylor due to his versatility, playing both in-line and in the slot.
Also, don’t forget about Jeremy Ruckert, who is perfectly suited to be a TE3 in the NFL. His run-blocking improved significantly last season, and being third on the depth chart is the perfect spot for him; asking anything more is too tall an order for a player of his caliber, as we’ve seen.
Overall, the Jets’ tight ends, most notably Taylor and Sadiq, are expected to play a significant role in the Jets’ passing attack this season.
