Speaking to reporters ahead of Wednesday’s OTAs, New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn announced that rookie quarterback Cade Klubnik will miss practice due to back tightness.
However, it doesn’t appear to be anything serious, as Glenn expects him to be ready for mandatory minicamp next week, saying the rookie signal caller will be “fine.”
Also, he won’t be missing much work anyway, as Wednesday’s practice will be geared towards special teams, the HC also announced.
Thus far, Klubnik has been the headliner of the Jets’ offseason workouts. It is the time of year when fans dream big and get bought in when a Day 3 rookie completes a few nice passes to padless pass catchers in Florham Park.
The real reason for optimism surrounding Klubnik, though, is that he has flashed high-end ability before. Entering the 2025 NCAA season, there was legitimate No. 1 overall pick buzz surrounding the Clemson product.
However, after a rough 2025 season, he fell to the fourth round. While the Jets’ track record of developing Day 3 quarterbacks isn’t all that promising, with James Morgan and Jordan Travis being the most recent failures, Klubnik is looking to flip the script.
According to Glenn, Bailey Zappe is currently listed as the Jets’ QB2. Despite that, it remains an open competition, and with a strong summer, Klubnik, whom the organization seems smitten with, could earn the role.
It is always good to be cautious with injuries this time of year and not rush guys back into action when it doesn’t matter, as it could lead to further setbacks.
