Tight end has become one of the New York Jets’ deepest positions.

The Jets drafted Oregon’s Kenyon Sadiq in the first round of this year’s draft, just one year after selecting Mason Taylor in the second round. Last December, though, they solidified the back end of the depth chart by re-signing Jeremy Ruckert, a former third-round pick, to a two-year, $10 million extension.

Over his first three years, the Ohio State product often struggled to make an impact. He failed to score a touchdown and made plenty of mistakes as a blocker.

But in the 2025 season, the Jets’ new regime saw enough from Ruckert to invest $5 million guaranteed to keep him around. Ruckert scored his first career touchdown, caught a career-high 23 passes, and seemed to make strides as a blocker.

In 2026, Ruckert is on track to receive fewer targets than ever. With Sadiq and Taylor in front of him in the tight end room, Ruckert will rarely see the ball thrown his way.

However, Ruckert can still make an impact as a blocker. Plenty of NFL teams like to run three-tight end sets, and the Jets could be among the leaders in the usage of that package, based on their investments at the position. Plus, with Sadiq being an undersized tight end who may need time to develop his blocking at the NFL level, the Jets may prefer Ruckert over Sadiq as an in-line tight end in some situations.

All things considered, the Jets need Ruckert to make an impact as a blocker. Based on their decision to extend him, it seems like they trust him to do that.

But what does the film say? Should Ruckert really be trusted as the Jets’ go-to blocking tight end? How much progress did he actually make in 2025?

In the latest edition of Blewett’s Blitz, we answer all of those questions in a film breakdown of Ruckert’s 2025 season.

Below is the full Jeremy Ruckert film review.
