No football position can be evaluated solely on numbers.

But if there’s one position where the numbers can lie more than any other, it’s probably wide receiver. They cannot produce a single stat without multiple other parties doing their job first.

Just ask Garrett Wilson.

Four years of quarterbacks like Zach Wilson and Justin Fields, along with inconsistent play-calling, have left Wilson with a career-long statistical track record that doesn’t necessarily scream “all-world superstar”. But ask almost any Jets fan who has watched the man play football, and they will tell you that he is every bit as talented as just about any other wideout in the game.

The numbers are what they are: In four seasons (58 games), Wilson has caught 315 passes for 3,644 yards and 18 touchdowns. He surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in each of his first three seasons. Still, Wilson has yet to soar very far past that 1,000-yard mark, and his touchdown total feels shockingly low for a player with his abilities.

In 2025, Wilson was on track to hit the 1,000-yard mark again until a right knee injury ended his season after seven games. He finished with 36 receptions for a team-high 395 yards and four touchdowns.

Wilson’s true talent level remains a hot debate in NFL circles. His numbers suggest that he is a great player, but not one of the top 10-15 best wideouts in the sport. However, his best highlights and his route-running reels suggest that he might be capable of being the best player at his position if he were in the right situations.

Which side is closer to the truth?

To find out, we dive deep into Wilson’s 2025 game film to evaluate him independent of his surroundings. How good are his releases off the line? How consistently does he separate at the top of his routes? How consistently does he capitalize on catchable targets? Does he read defenses properly? Is he too much of a freelancer at times?

In the latest episode of Blewett’s Blitz, we answer all of those questions and more in the full Garrett Wilson film review, seen below.
