Monday’s New York Jets training camp practice featured an injury scare that will have to be monitored moving forward.
According to Jets X-Factor’s Connor Long, who was on the scene in Florham Park, starting running back Breece Hall went down after catching a pass from Geno Smith and running. Hall was helped up by the training staff and walked off on his own power, although he was clearly in pain.
After practice, head coach Aaron Glenn stated that Hall “strained his groin,” and that he “doesn’t think it is a big deal,” but that he wants to wait and get the evaluation before speaking further on it.
Garrett Wilson missed practice due to an illness. Minkah Fitzpatrick and Demario Davis had vet days off.
Hall’s injury is, of course, one to monitor for Jets fans. After signing him to a contract that pays him among the eight richest running backs in the league, the Jets have big plans for Hall, who is coming off his first career 1,000-yard rushing season. A dual-threat weapon out of the backfield, New York hopes that Hall can have his most productive all-around season yet, especially with an offensive coordinator in Frank Reich who likes to throw passes to running backs.
Until Hall returns, Braelon Allen appears slated to take over first-team reps. Allen scored a 31-yard touchdown in the Jets’ preseason opener and was listed as the RB2 over Isaiah Davis on the team’s unofficial depth chart, for what it is worth (the unofficial depth chart is created by the communications department, not the coaching staff).
