The New York Jets have dealt with more injury issues than they’d like as of late, but they did receive some positive news: the return of 366-pound run-stuffing extraordinaire T’Vondre Sweat from a hamstring issue, which landed him on the NFI (Non-Football Injury) list going into training camp.

On Tuesday, Sweat spoke to the media for the first time since returning to practice. When asked about his goals for the 2026 season, he only needed one word to respond:

“Win.”

It’s an answer that most Jets fans can probably get behind. Over the years, they’ve been fed a myriad of verbose soundbites that promised imminent success. None of those words translated to results. Perhaps that one word is all the Jets need to focus on after 15 straight years of empty promises.

Elaborating, the third-year defensive tackle said, “I don’t really got no personal goals, I just go out there and play my best every game, and I just want to win.”

Sweat, 25, established himself as one of the NFL’s best run defenders over his first two seasons with the Tennessee Titans. A second-round pick out of Texas in 2024, Sweat lived up to that potential over his first two seasons, racking up 85 total tackles and eight tackles for loss in 29 games.

While Sweat is known for his run defense, he is unusually capable as a pass rusher for a player of his size. Among 97 qualified defensive tackles in the 2025 season (min. 200 pass-rush snaps), he placed 16th in PFFโ€™s pass rush grade (74.1), 36th in pressure rate (9%), and 40th in pass-rush win rate (9.4%), showing that he can be productive on any down and in any situation.

Sweat wasn’t the only key defensive lineman who returned to practice this week. Defensive end Joseph Ossai also took the field after recently being activated from the PUP (Physically Unable to Perform) list.

New York is still healing at various positions, with players like running back Breece Hall, cornerback D’Angelo Ponds, and tight end Kenyon Sadiq expected to continue recovering over the next few weeks as they prepare to return for the season opener on Sept. 13. The defensive line, though, has returned to full strength.
