New York Jets’ Michael Carter highlights Week 8 waiver-wire pickups in fantasy football

Navigating the waiver wire is incredibly important to fantasy football success. Each week, Jets X-Factor dives into the waiver wire for the must-adds to your fantasy football team.

New York Jets RB Michael Carter finds himself back on this list after an impressive performance and increased usage in Week 7. Can he be the team’s RB1 going forward?

All roster percentages are from Yahoo Sports.

Quarterback

Carson Wentz (38% Rostered)

I’m pretty surprised to find Carson Wentz on this list. He hasn’t taken a complete leap forward reuniting with Colts head coach Frank Reich, but he does look much improved from his 2020 season. Wentz has a very favorable schedule coming up, and the Colts’ offense seems to be rolling. He’s a great option to have as a bye-week replacement quarterback.

Running Back

Khalil Herbert (60% Rostered)

With David Montgomery out, Khalil Herbert has leap-frogged Damien Williams as the Bears’ RB1. Chicago’s schedule isn’t the most friendly towards RBs, but Herbert has shown an ability to produce with Flex appeal even in horrible matchups.

Boston Scott (2% Rostered) / Kenneth Gainwell (22% Rostered)

With Miles Sanders having a potentially serious leg injury, both of Philly’s backs are worth putting in a waiver claim for. Boston Scott would seemingly be the primary back (as he essentially stepped into Sanders’ role once he was injured). Gainwell is the pass-catcher of the group, and his role would expand in Sanders’ absence.

Michael Carter (62% Rostered)

Michael Carter’s snaps continue to increase, and he’s making the most of them. In Week 7, Carter played his most snaps to date (72% of the snaps), marking the third straight game in which he was given his highest snap ratio of the year. He also had his best fantasy outing in PPR formats with 11 carries for 37 yards and eight catches for 67 yards.

With his snap counts continuously increasing and a sign of taking on a featured pass-catching role, Carter is worth adding in any fantasy football league.

Brandon Bolden (6% Rostered)

With James White out, it has been Branon Bolden taking up the pass-catching role in New England’s backfield. While this isn’t as useful in games where the Patriots are dominating, their schedule could dictate a lot of usage for Bolden going forward.

Wide Receiver

Michael Gallup (41% Rostered)

After suffering a calf injury in Week 1, Michael Gallup will be returning to the Cowboys’ lineup. Gallup will instantly slide in as the third receiving option on the team, taking back the role Dalton Schultz took over in his absence. Gallup is a weekly Flex option and a must-add in all formats.

Kalif Raymond (3% Rostered)

Kalif Raymond has quietly been an incredibly consistent fantasy football option this season. He’s been a favorite target of Jared Goff’s so far this season and has scored at least 10 points in four of his last five games. Raymond is the clear-cut WR1 on Detroit, and with a consistently negative game-script, he should continue to see this type of production going forward.

Tight End

C.J. Uzomah (20% Rostered)

C.J. Uzomah has been on a tear in recent weeks, putting up five touchdowns in his last four games. I’d be wary of expecting consistency out of him, but he has a great matchup this week against the Jets – who are giving up the 8th-most fantasy points to tight ends this season.

With the Jets’ surprisingly solid defensive backs putting the clamps on Cincy’s wide receivers, expect Uzomah and Joe Mixon to be heavily featured.

Robert Tonyan (52% Rostered)

If we’re being honest, Robert Tonyan has been a bust so far this season, only surpassing 5.0 fantasy points twice. However, he had a good bounce-back game in Week 7 against Washington, and could be in line for another in Week 8.

The Packers play a short week on Thursday night against the Arizona Cardinals and will be without Davante Adams. The Cardinals give up the least points to tight ends in fantasy football, but never count out a team led by Aaron Rodgers. I like Tonyan as a streaming option this week.
