Zach Wilson congratulates Tom Brady on retirement

Through a statement shared on his Twitter account, Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady officially announced his retirement from the NFL on Feb. 1, 2022. It concludes a legendary 22-year run for the 44-year-old passer.

New York Jets quarterback Zach Wilson shared a congratulatory message for Brady through a tweet on his own Twitter account.

“Congratulations to the best to ever do it, it’s been a pleasure to watch and learn from you my entire life. It was an honor to share the field with you,” Wilson writes.

Brady’s Buccaneers defeated Wilson’s Jets by a final score of 28-24 in a game played at MetLife Stadium on Jan. 2, part of Week 17’s NFL action. Wilson played one of his best rookie-year games, leading the Jets to a 14-point second-half lead before Brady did his thing and broke the hearts of Jets fans one last time.

The Michigan and BYU products share the same birthday, Aug. 3. Brady was born in 1977 while Wilson was born 22 years later in 1999. When the two shared the field in January, their 22-year age difference became the largest gap in history between two starting quarterbacks in an NFL game.

Brady retires with a 31-8 overall record against the Jets, including 30-7 in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs. It’s a dominant win percentage of .795, but that is nothing unusual compared to his overall career win percentage as a starting quarterback, which is .766.

New York’s defense actually caused more problems for Brady than most other teams’ defenses did. He averaged 6.96 yards per pass attempt against the Jets, his fifth-lowest average among the 31 opponents he faced multiple times.
