New York Jets star Quinnen Williams has his eyes on Fletcher Cox
Isn’t it wild how much power a simple emoji can wield?
That eerie fact is never clearer than during the NFL’s free agency frenzy.
New York Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams created a wave of excitement amongst fans by responding to a tweet that shared the news of the release of Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox. Williams tagged the Jets’ Twitter account and bookended it with the infamously cryptic set of digital eyeballs.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Cox is being released by the Eagles with a post-June 1 designation. This means that the Eagles will not reap the cap-space benefits of his release until June 1, but Cox is immediately free to join another team.
Fletcher Cox was released by the #Eagles with a post-June 1 designation, sources say. At 4p, $18 million would have become fully guaranteed. Cox is now a free agent but the team and his representatives continue to have discussions about a possible return.

Garafolo also adds that Cox has had discussions with Philadelphia about a possible return.
Cox, a six-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl LII champion, turned 31 last December. In 2021, he collected 3.5 sacks, 12 quarterback hits, and 35 tackles in 16 games. Cox also ranked 17th among interior defensive linemen with 44 total pressures.
Williams drew comparisons to Cox when entering the 2019 NFL draft out of Alabama. Additionally, the 24-year-old has stated before that he looks up to Cox as a player.
Following the conclusion of the 2021 season, Williams told reporters, “ I got to be able to be a person where I can dominate and take over football games; such as like Aaron Donald, Fletcher Cox, and those guys; on that elite level where they can take over football games. I feel like I have that ability also and I got to tap into a new level this offseason to become that player I know I can be and the organization needs me to be.”

Jets general manager Joe Douglas is familiar with Cox from his days in the Eagles’ front office from 2016-19.
