The New York Jets’ shaky 2025 season came to an end on Sunday afternoon in Buffalo, and fittingly, it ended with an embarrassing loss.
Short-handed and overmatched, Gang Green fell 35-8 to the Bills.
After New York won the coin toss and elected to defer, Buffalo marched 80 yards down the field with ease and capped off their opening drive with Mitchell Trubisky and a wide-open Dawson Knox connecting for a 17-yard touchdown.
The Jets’ opening possession was essentially a snapshot of the season. After two straight runs, New York was flagged for too many men on the field before Brady Cook sailed a pass behind the line of scrimmage over Isaiah Williams’ head, forcing the punt team onto the field.
Gang Green’s defense came up with a stop on fourth-and-short on the ensuing drive, but Cook and the Jets’ offense were unable to capitalize and were forced to punt once again.
On the following drive, the Bills methodically moved the ball down the field, much like their opening possession, and found the end zone once again, this time with former Jets running back Ty Johnson scoring out of the wildcat formation.
The Jets handed Buffalo prime field position after Cook and New York’s offense failed to convert on fourth down. Trubisky continued to pick apart the Jets’ defense, while the Bills’ running game kept rolling. Ray Davis scored his first touchdown of the day as Buffalo jumped out to a 21-0 lead with under five minutes remaining in the first half.
Entering halftime, the Jets were down 21-0 and outgained 251-63. And it didn’t get much better for New York in the second half, as Buffalo tacked on 14 more points to secure the 35-8 victory, while the Cook and fullback Andrew Beck connected for a touchdown in garbage time.
With the loss and a win by their crosstown rival Giants over the Dallas Cowboys, the Jets own the second overall pick in April’s NFL draft.
A pivotal offseason now awaits the Jets, who have holes all across the roster, more than $70 million in projected cap space, and four projected top-50 draft picks.
