According to the man himself, the New York Jets have offered a contract to 37-year-old Russell Wilson to serve as the team’s QB2 behind his former teammate, Geno Smith.
In a conversation with Ryan Dunleavy of The New York Post, Wilson revealed the Jets, whom he met with last Tuesday, have an offer on the table for him.
“It was great,” Wilson said of his meeting with the Jets. “They offered me, and I’m trying to figure out what the next best thing is for me to do. I still know I can play ball at a high level, but also I have an opportunity to do TV, so we’ll see what happens.”
He also praised Smith, with whom he was teammates for three seasons in Seattle.
“Geno is a great friend,” Wilson said, “but I’m just focused on today and making a difference [at the BTIG Charity Day event in New York].”
Wilson, 37, is well past his prime, but is still capable of being a No. 2 option in the league. He is consistently healthy and can operate a conventional offense. The ten-time Pro Bowler also offers over 200 starts of valuable experience for the young passers on New York’s roster, including fourth-round rookie Cade Klubnik.
A recent report emerged that Wilson is in “deep talks” to enter the broadcasting space and hang up his cleats ahead of the 2026 season.
“There are a lot of great networks,” he said of potentially turning his attention to broadcasting. “I still love football — being in it in every way. Staying ready to play, too. Every day, I’m training and getting ready. The great news is that there are a lot of good opportunities. Playing 14-plus years has been amazing for me; I’m just grateful I get to do what I love to do.”
Whether Wilson will join the Jets remains unknown, but we know New York has made an offer to the former Super Bowl champion.
