It’s always complicated to analyze an NFL collapse.
On one hand, there had to be a lot of things that went right for the losing team to build up the lead they eventually blew. Those things should not be forgotten or overlooked.
On the other hand, a loss is a loss. If you build up a lead and squander it in short order, there had to be some major mistakes that allowed it to happen.
Both sides of the coin apply to the New York Jets after their 20-17 overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2, a heartbreaking result after New York held a 17-7 lead in the fourth quarter.
With under 10 minutes left in the fourth, Jets fans could smell a 2-0 start. The Jets had the Packers on the ropes, facing first-and-25 on their own side of the field with no offensive momentum as they trailed by two scores. New York had controlled the game, and really the majority of both of their games to that point, holding a 40-17 scoring margin through seven-plus quarters.
Then, it all unraveled, faster than you can say “call timeout!”
