Check out Sauce Gardner in a New York Jets uniform for the very first time
On Saturday, May 21, the NFLPA held its Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles. The event provided football fans with their first look at some of the 2022 NFL draft’s most popular prospects in the uniforms of their new teams.
For New York Jets fans, this meant a much-anticipated first glimpse of fourth overall pick Sauce Gardner in his complete green-and-white garb.
The Cincinnati cornerback was featured in a video clip shared by the NFL’s official Instagram account. Gardner can be seen wearing a full Jets uniform while leaping for a catch. He is donning a green No. 1 jersey, white pants, green socks, and a helmet. He also has a pair of bands on each arm.

The Jets had recently announced that Gardner was switching back to the No. 1 jersey that he wore in college, taking the number from fellow cornerback D.J. Reed (who switched to No. 4). Gardner was wearing a No. 20 jersey during his short appearance at rookie minicamp.
Of course, NFL players do not wear their team’s official uniforms during practices, so this marks Gardner’s first public appearance with a full Jets uniform on. It’s also his first appearance with the No. 1 since switching over from No. 20.
Gardner was not the only Jet present at the Rookie Premiere. He was joined by 10th overall pick Garrett Wilson and 36th overall pick Breece Hall.
In the group photo below, you can see Wilson and Hall in the back row. Wilson maintains the No. 17 that he wore at rookie minicamp while Hall is wearing the No. 20 that he recently switched to (Hall previously wore No. 35 at rookie minicamp). Gardner is in the second row from the back.
Gardner, Wilson, and Hall are scheduled to wear their New York jerseys on the field for the first time in slightly under 12 weeks when the Jets visit the Philadelphia Eagles for their preseason opener on August 12.
