Darrelle Revis is still only 37 years old as he celebrates his birthday on July 14

There is no shortage of superlatives used to describe Darrelle Revis.

Revis Island was one of the most exciting players in New York Jets franchise history, all while playing a position that usually generates only negative attention.

It’s hard to believe that the former Jets first-round pick is still only 37 years old.

The Jets drafted Revis with the 14th overall pick in 2007 after trading up to get their guy.

It was one of the best draft trades in team history.

Everyone remembers Revis’s magical 2009 season, in which he shut down the likes of Andre Johnson, Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco, Randy Moss, Reggie Wayne, Marques Colston, Steve Smith, and Roddy White. That’s a list laden with Hall of Famers and soon-to-be gold jackets.

What made Revis so unique was his ability to cover elite receivers one-on-one without safety help. He traveled all over the field with the opponent’s No. 1 guy, something that many top corners avoid. We may never see another CB like him again.

Some of Revis’s best moments with the Jets include a one-handed pick of Chad Pennington in the end zone, a pick off of Vincent Jackson in the AFC Divisional Round vs. the Chargers, a late pick of Tony Romo leading to a Jets game-winning field goal on Christmas Eve, and a 100-yard pick-six against the Dolphins on Monday Night Football.

Revis, who retired in 2018, is a surefire first-ballot Hall of Famer in the Class of 2023. He will be inducted into the Jets Ring of Honor on November 27 vs. the Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium.
