The New York Jets are looking to get back into the win column on Thursday night when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars at MetLife Stadium. New York has lost 4 of its last five games and is on the brink of missing the postseason. Meanwhile, the Jaguars have won three of the last four and are on the tail of the division-leading Tennessee Titans.
New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars moneyline
- Jacksonville Jaguars: +108
- New York Jets: -126
The New York Jets are -126 on the moneyline, meaning a $100 bet would pay out just about $80 of profit.
After opening the first half of the season 2-6, the Jaguars have been playing much better recently. They have gained some momentum in the last few weeks and have been impressive in doing so. Jacksonville has only six wins but a few of their victories jump out. They beat the Baltimore Ravens, Tennessee Titans, and Dallas Cowboys in the last few weeks as they are clicking in both phases, but specifically on offense.
In their last three wins, the Jaguars have scored almost 35 points per game. Trevor Lawrence has been playing very well and has 14 touchdowns to one interception in his last six games. New York must be able to create pressure against their banged-up offensive line to help slow him down.
I think the Jets will be able to move the ball on this defense. Regardless of the weather, the Jets have favorable matchups all over the field. If the defense comes to play in the rain, the Jets should walk out of MetLife Stadium victorious.
New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars over-under
- New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars over-under: 37.5
- Over: -104
- Under: -118
Everything about this game screams that it should stay under the low total. The Jets have been an under team all year as they have stayed under in seven of their last nine games. New York’s defense has been one of the best in the league as they only allow 305 yards per game which is third-best in the NFL. They also rank fourth in the league in passing yards allowed per game (193.9) and points allowed per game (18.8)
With New York’s struggling offense entering Week 16, they do have a favorable matchup against the Jaguars. However, with the weather expected in north Jersey, I would not expect a high-flying game from both offenses. It should be raining and windy for a large portion of the game and the temperature should be hovering around the high thirties.
I expect this game to be like most late-season Thursday night games and stay under the total.
New York Jets vs. Jacksonville Jaguars injuries
Brandin Echols (quad), Denzel Mims (concussion), Jeff Smith (knee), and Mike White (ribs) have all been ruled out. Lamarcus Joyner (hip) has been limited all week and is questionable for Thursday, but is trending toward playing. Zonovan Knight (ankle) and Quinnen Williams (calf) were full participants in practice on Wednesday and should both play.
Foley Fatukasi (ankle), Cam Robinson (knee), and Travon Walker (ankle) are all out Thursday night. Andrew Wingard (shoulder), Jawaan Taylor (hamstring), Brandon Scherff (abdomen), and Chad Muma (ankle) are all questionable. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence did not practice Monday with a toe injury but was limited the rest of the week. Lawrence is questionable but will play.
