Derek Carr is preparing for a visit with the New York Jets

Up until this point, any talk involving Derek Carr and the New York Jets was mere speculation. Now, the Jets have officially shown interest in the free agent quarterback.

According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, the Jets are bringing Carr in for a visit this weekend.

ESPN’s Dianna Russini also reported the news.

Carr’s only other visit thus far has been with the New Orleans Saints, which took place prior to his release from Las Vegas. It was a two-day visit that seemed to go well, according to reports.

So far, the Jets and Saints are the only teams to show confirmed interest in Carr through a scheduled visit. Other teams rumored to have interest in Carr include the Panthers, Titans, and Commanders, although none of those have been reported to schedule a visit just yet.

Carr, who turns 32 in March, will join a new team for the first time in his career after spending his first nine seasons with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. He started 142 games for the Raiders and threw for 35,222 yards with 217 touchdowns and 99 interceptions, compiling a passer rating of 91.8 and a completion percentage of 64.6%.

New York’s offseason pursuit of a quarterback has officially begun. We shall see if the Jets look to move quickly and strike a deal with Carr or if they wait and see what happens with Aaron Rodgers, who is beginning his four-day darkness retreat “at the end of this week”, per his own words.
