Could the New York Jets make a run at the four-time Pro Bowl running back?
Since he was cut by the Minnesota Vikings, free agent running back Dalvin Cook has been discussed as a potential option for the New York Jets.
The Jets are hoping to contend for a Super Bowl in 2023 and will likely look into every option to improve the roster. While Breece Hall was establishing himself as a top-10 running back in 2022, it’s unclear what version of Hall the Jets will get in 2023 as he recovers from his ACL injury.
While Hall’s recovery is going well – head coach Robert Saleh said he’s already hitting 22 mph on the GPS – it’s unlikely he will be fully healthy for Week 1. In a season where the Jets appear to be all-in, do the Jets trust their other running backs to take a significant load?
That’s where Dalvin Cook could come in.
There haven’t been any concrete reports of the Jets being interested in Cook, but Cook appears to be keeping an eye on the Jets. Cook has liked several tweets mentioning him and the Jets since he was cut, and on Wednesday, he specifically tweeted about joining the Jets.
Appearing on ESPN, Mike Greenberg stated his belief that the Jets should sign both Dalvin Cook and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins. Cook quote-tweeted the video and called Greenberg “smart” for his take.

Over the last four seasons, the 27-year-old averaged 1,606 total yards and just under 12 total touchdowns per season. Pairing him with Hall could give the Jets one of the best running back duos in the NFL.
At a press conference on June 9, Saleh said the Jets would “turn the stones over” regarding Cook. As Saleh noted, the biggest question is money as the Jets still need to extend Quinnen Williams and restructure Aaron Rodgers.
Regardless, the Jets will explore every option as they dream of their first Super Bowl in over 50 years.
