New York Jets TE Zack Kuntz’s athletic numbers say he is a freak, but what does his game film say?
The New York Jets‘ tight end position was greatly improved in the 2022 offseason, but it didn’t get a chance to shine due to poor quarterback play.
Tyler Conklin isn’t a “stud” TE1, but at the minimum, he is a good receiving tight end. C.J. Uzomah is solid depth at TE2 even if he is slightly overpaid for his role. Jeremy Ruckert rounds out last year’s group. He was a third-round pick in 2022 and performed well at the end of the season.

Fast forward to the later rounds of the 2023 NFL draft. At this point, teams tend to draft players who fit one or two of these characteristics: players who have a history of injuries. or freak athletes who are extremely raw.
The Jets’ seventh-round pick, Old Dominion tight end Zack Kuntz, fits the “freak athlete” mold. Kuntz posted historically good measurements and testing numbers. Despite those numbers, he fell to the seventh round.
With a thorough review of Kuntz’s film, we can see why he fell and what he must work on to reach his ceiling.
- How raw is he?
- Can he live up to his numbers?
- What should we expect in Year 1?
- What must he improve? Can those issues easily be fixed?
All of these questions are answered in the newest edition of Blewett’s Blitz. Plus, a list of strengths and weaknesses can be seen at the bottom of this article!
