Week 3 NFL Best Bets
Los Angeles Chargers @ Minnesota Vikings
The Chargers and Vikings have surprisingly started the season 0-2 in large part due to their defenses. Both units are in the bottom third of the league in points and total yards per game and were just as bad in 2022.
Despite getting gashed in their two games this season, I think both defenses take a step forward this week.
The Chargers should be able to get after Kirk Cousins in this game with the tandem of Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack against a suspect Minnesota offensive line that ranks 26th in pass-blocking efficiency, per PFF. With Minnesota only averaging 34.5 rushing yards per game through two weeks, they rely on their passing attack as much as anyone. I see Los Angeles’ pass rush making a strong statement and limiting Minnesota all game.
The Vikings defense does not do many things well but this year they are slowing down the pass as opposed to last season. Through two weeks, Minnesota is only allowing 170 passing yards per game. If this continues and they force the Chargers to run the ball, I think this game will be a lot lower scoring than expected.

Buffalo Bills @ Washington Commanders
The Washington Commanders are 2-0 and look like a team that could find its way into the postseason. Sam Howell has been everything the Commanders hoped for through the first two games. Their defense, led by the defensive line, is also one of the stronger units in the NFL.
The Bills have started 1-1 after losing to the New York Jets and hammering the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 2. I think there’s still a little overreaction to Week 1 here for Buffalo. The Jets’ defense just has Allen’s number as he always seems to struggle against them. We were reminded what Allen is capable of in Week 2 when he threw for 274 yards and three touchdowns while completing almost 84% of his passes. I expect this to continue this week for Allen and the Bills offense.
Buffalo’s defense is still one of the best in the league, even without superstar pass rusher Von Miller. To me, they are the perfect defense to give fits to young quarterbacks. With their pass rush and experienced secondary, it is hard to move the ball on them as they rarely get exposed.
I anticipate the Bills winning this one by more than a touchdown.
