For a top-five (or even top-three) pick in many fantasy football drafts, New York Jets running back Breece Hall has not lived up to the hype this season.
Hall ranks 16th among running backs with an average of 15.6 PPR points per game. Overall, he ranks 46th among all players with 202.4 total PPR points.
That inconsistency already made fantasy owners hesitant to start Hall weekly. Following his knee injury, though, figuring out how to use him in Week 15 was truly baffling.
Hall turned out a non-disastrous 13.1 PPR points, though it took a late touchdown run to save him from a total dud. He played 48% of the Jets’ snaps, ceding time to Isaiah Davis (41%) and Braelon Allen (17% before leaving with a back injury).
This week, though, Hall is off the injury report and, by all reports, ready to go. Meanwhile, Allen and Davis were both limited at practice on Thursday with back injuries.
Considering that Hall is fully healthy and the other two backs are ailing, that would seem to indicate Hall will be the bellcow back as he was until his injury. However, since many fantasy owners thought the Jets might shut Hall down for the season due to his injury, there may still be some concern that Hall’s snap count will be limited in some way.
From the way the Jets used Hall even in garbage time last season, my best guess is that he will return to his full-time role now that he is healthy. Remember, the Jets gave Hall 37 carries in Week 18 against the Patriots in an effort to get him to 1,000 rushing yards (which they somehow bungled).
Of course, Jeff Ulbrich is at the helm, not Robert Saleh, but there’s no reason to believe Ulbrich would treat Hall’s injury differently than Saleh did.
According to NFL Fantasy, the Rams rank 15th in fantasy points per game allowed to running backs. This could be a high-scoring matchup in which the Jets are forced to throw a lot, and Hall has not seen nearly as high a target share this year as last (20.1% vs. 26.8%). Still, he averaged 5.4 targets, 4.2 receptions, and 36.5 receiving yards per game before getting injured in Week 13. That should give him a fairly safe floor in PPR formats.
FantasyPros currently ranks Hall as the PPR RB17 heading into Week 16. That sounds about right for him. There’s always upside with Hall, although that has not been on display all that frequently in 2024.
Pencil Hall into your lineups as an RB2 for Week 16. Good luck in the playoffs.
