The New York Jets may have a controversy brewing between Joe Namath and another team great
Everyone and their mother seemingly has an opinion on the New York Jets. After all, they’re 1-3, still seemingly stuck in quarterback purgatory, and are a convenient punching bag. Joe Namath took advantage of that last week, ripping Zach Wilson on The Michael Kay Show. Namath called Wilson’s play against the Patriots ‘awful’ and ‘disgusting,’ among other derogatory adjectives.
After the Jets’ 23-20 loss to the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football, though, another Jets Hall of Famer is singing a different tune.
I think @RealJoeNamath spoke too soon. Zac Wilson took it personal.
245yds and 2 TDs. The noise can quiet down for now.

“I think @RealJoeNamath spoke too soon. [sic] Zach Wilson took it personal,” Darrelle Revis tweeted. “245yds and 2 TDs. The noise can quiet down for now.”
Revis is no stranger to engaging in controversy with former Jets greats. The recently inducted Hall of Famer took aim at fellow enshrinee Joe Klecko earlier in the offseason and also took an opportunity to rib his former teammate, Nick Mangold.
Still, Revis may have a point. Wilson looked as poised and confident as the Jets have ever seen him, throwing several pinpoint passes while leading the team back from a 17-0 deficit. While his fumbled snap ultimately allowed Kansas City to win the game without ever ceding possession back to the Jets, Wilson certainly looked like an NFL quarterback on Sunday night. He even outplayed Patrick Mahomes for a large portion of the game.
It will be interesting to see if Namath responds to Revis. After all, No. 12 was far from the only one calling for the Jets to bench Wilson.
Regardless of the losing outcome, this performance should be a tremendous confidence booster for both the Jets and their quarterback. As Revis stated, it should quiet some of the noise around him and keep the Trevor Siemian calls at bay, at least for one week.
