Robert Saleh has already made a decision on the New York Jets’ Week 13 quarterback
It’s Timmy Time for the New York Jets once again in Week 13.
During Saturday’s media availability, head coach Robert Saleh announced that the team will start Tim Boyle against the Atlanta Falcons next week. Saleh also gave his thoughts on the quarterback’s performance on Friday.
“Obviously, there are things that he could have done better, things that he had no control over, and I know he battled out there. We were able to get to certain calls that we were hoping to do. We were able to execute a lot of the different things that we wanted to execute; it just didn’t come to full fruition.”
Even with the switch to Boyle, the Jets’ offense still had the same issues they had with Zach Wilson under center. The Dolphins continuously stacked the box against the Jets, daring Boyle to try to beat them by passing the ball.
The Jets still opted to run into these stacked boxes on early downs, continuously putting the offense behind the sticks. Due to the same predictable and stale play-calling, Boyle was put into pure passing situations where he had no chance to succeed.
Boyle himself was not that effective, either. He was inaccurate with his throws and, with limited athletic ability, was a sitting duck behind the team’s offensive line when the Dolphins sent pressure.
Whether it’s Boyle, Siemian, or Wilson, no quarterback on the roster will help solve the team’s issues on offense.
The Jets passed on every opportunity in the offseason and before the trade deadline to add a real backup to the quarterback room. Combined with the immense struggles of Hackett, limited skill position talent, and a rash of offensive line injuries, it is a recipe for one of the worst offenses in recent NFL history.
It does not matter who starts at quarterback for the Jets. Until the fundamental issues of their offense change, they will deal with the same problems regardless of who is under center.
