Heading into their game against the Atlanta Falcons, the New York Jets made a series of roster moves

The New York Jets continue making tweaks to their roster late in the season.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Jets and veteran safety Adrian Amos agreed to part ways.

In addition, Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz reported that the Jets plan to elevate defensive tackle Perrion Winfrey from the practice squad to the active roster.

The Jets confirmed the moves later in the day, along with announcing other roster moves.

The team activated offensive lineman Wes Schweitzer and special teams ace Justin Hardee from injured reserve, which should help the team at two positions they have struggled with.

New York also released offensive lineman Xavier Newman and elevated offensive lineman Jake Hanson from the practice squad.

Amos, 30, was brought in this offseason to replace the injured Chuck Clark at safety. Appearing in nine games this season, the veteran safety had 19 tackles, five assists, and two pass breakups.

The departure of Amos should allow the team to give more playing time to Ashtyn Davis. Furthermore, it could enable the team to elevate preseason standout Trey Dean, who was a UDFA out of Florida, to the active roster.

Winfrey, who the Cleveland Browns originally drafted, has some familiarity with the Jets’ coaching staff. The former Oklahoma defensive tackle was coached by Robert Saleh and company at the 2022 Senior Bowl, where, as Schultz reported, he won MVP honors.

Combined with the team’s previous offensive moves, the Jets seem to be shifting toward a youth movement to finish the season. The team may want to see the pieces they have for an all-in 2024 season. As a result, allowing their recent draft picks to play more should help determine what the team’s needs are next season.

More veterans could potentially be allowed to latch on with contenders in the coming weeks, but that is no guarantee. Regardless, the Jets are shifting toward finding out what they have in a lost season, setting them up to fully understand their needs for the following season.
