It doesn’t look like any significant changes are coming for the New York Jets’ coaching staff
The New York Jets are truly running it back.
Per Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic, the team is not expected to make any significant changes to their coaching staff.
The #Jets are expected to make some staff changes but nothing significant.
All three coordinators (Hackett, Ulbrich, Boyer) will return, and the expectation going into the weekend was that Keith Carter and Todd Downing would be back too, per sources.
More on the coming…

The Jets will return Joe Douglas, Robert Saleh, offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, and special teams coordinator Brant Boyer. Moreover, they seemingly do not plan on moving on from quarterbacks coach Todd Downing or offensive line coach Keith Carter.
It is difficult to fathom how the Jets could take such inaction after the season they had on the offensive side of the football. They spent most of the season with a third-down conversion rate poised to be a 50-year low in NFL history. They scored a league-worst 1.12 points per drive on offense.
Even if they do not want to fire Hackett for Rodgers’ sake, bringing back Downing and Carter defies understanding. The Jets allowed 65 sacks and took a league-high 42 pre-snap penalties. Despite rush yards over expected totals that were near the top of the league, Breece Hall looked like a pedestrian back in the run game for most of the season due to the Jets’ ineffective run-blocking. Furthermore, there is reason to suspect that their offensive line injuries can be traced back to Carter.
Meanwhile, Zach Wilson made some progress this season but still failed to come anywhere near living up to his potential. The offense fell apart with Tim Boyle and Trevor Siemian under center. Look no further than the Cleveland Browns and old friend Joe Flacco to see how an aging veteran can still lead a competent offense.
Still, Woody Johnson seems intent on truly handing the entire coaching staff a mulligan due to Aaron Rodgers’ injury. The team’s fate in 2024 could hinge on that decision.
