The New York Jets want Tony Adams to earn his job back in 2024
Signed by the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent out of Illinois in 2022, Tony Adams was perhaps the most surprising inclusion on the Jets’ initial 53-man roster that season. Adams impressed the Jets enough in training camp and the preseason to make the team outright, and he ended up playing 11 games as a rookie.
Despite logging only two starts and 116 defensive snaps in his rookie season, Adams was elevated to the Jets’ starting free safety role in 2023. Adams started in all 15 of his appearances and played 879 defensive snaps. He finished with 82 tackles, five passes defended, and three interceptions.
While Adams’ first season as a starter included some bright flashes, there were also occasional lapses. It appears those lapses were enough for the Jets’ coaching staff to feel that Adams should have to earn his starting job back in 2024. According to Robert Saleh, there will be a three-man competition for the Jets’ two starting safety spots, featuring Adams, Chuck Clark, and Ashtyn Davis.
Should the Jets turn back to Adams in the starting lineup? Or would they be better off with Clark and Davis?
