The New York Jets quarterback’s breakup hasn’t been amicable
Another New York Jets quarterback is in the news for a less-than-ideal reason. Tyrod Taylor, Aaron Rodgers’ backup, is being sued by his ex-girlfriend for breach of contract.
According to TMZ, Taylor verbally agreed with Draya Michele, his ex-girlfriend, to eventually sell her his home around Los Angeles. He said he would count any investment she made in the home toward the sale price. However, she claims that he changed his mind after buying the house for $3.2 million. He is now threatening to evict her and refuses to sell her the house, Michele’s lawsuit claims.
Taylor and Michele broke up in 2023. Michele since had a daughter with 22-year-old Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green.
The Jets signed the 34-year-old Taylor to a two-year, $12 million contract with $8.5 million guaranteed this offseason. He is a fairly expensive insurance policy for Rodgers after the latter went down four plays into the 2023 season with an Achilles tear.
Taylor played well with the Giants in 2023 despite a decimated offensive line and one of the league’s worst supporting casts. He completed 64.4% of his passes for 1,341 yards, 5 touchdowns, 3 interceptions, 7.5 yards per attempt, and an 89.1 passer rating. Over his last three starts, he averaged 298 passing yards per game, throwing for 9.6, 7.8, and 9.3 yards per attempt in those games.
Though this doesn’t come near the scale of Rodgers skipping mandatory minicamp, it’s another distraction in the media for the Jets. However, it’s likely to blow over as another personal issue rather than escalating to the levels of Rodgers’ detractors.
