The New York Jets’ quarterback envisions massive things for one player
Count Aaron Rodgers as a big believer in Garrett Wilson taking the next step.
In his Wednesday press conference, the New York Jets’ future Hall-of-Fame quarterback had some high praise for his No. 1 wide receiver.
“The best players are self-motivated, and he’s definitely that. I think it’s important for him to step into a greater leadership role. The way you cement that is by your work on the field. I told him in a meeting yesterday that he has the talent and ability to be the best receiver in the league,” said Rodgers.
“I’m biased. I think 17 in Las Vegas has been that for the past five or six years. He didn’t get that by just showing up; he got that by the way he worked. His level of excellence and attention to detail during my time in Green Bay was second to none. He had a mindset of dominating when he stepped on the field… I think he (Wilson) has the ability, confidence, and skillset to have that mindset. ”
It is no surprise that Rodgers sees Wilson’s talent as a wideout. He has posted two productive seasons with the worst quarterback room in football. He has the route running, hands, and athletic ability to make every type of play on the field.
Now, it just comes down to Wilson honing his craft further. He has already shown signs of this, such as describing his study habits and weight gain to be a better player for New York.
Wilson can strike a claim to the mantle of best wide receiver in the league if he can take another step forward with Rodgers. And if all breaks right, he may be doing it alongside the other player that his quarterback sees as a top-tier wideout in football.
