New York Jets cornerback Michael Carter II is quickly becoming one of the best defenders in the NFL
To the average NFL fan, the name Michael Carter II probably doesn’t ring a bell. In fact, it’s more likely that they will confuse him for his former New York Jets teammate, running back Michael Carter, now with the Arizona Cardinals. That’s just how the dynamic is sometimes between offensive and defensive players among casual fans.
However, “MC2” is quietly showing that he’s one of the best defenders in the league, and his head coach recognizes it.
“He’s kind of a quiet assassin,” Robert Saleh said to describe Carter II. “He’s so reliable, he’s out there, he doesn’t get as much fanfare, but he’s as reliable as any nickel there is in football. Teammates love him, works his tail off, and he’s another guy that we can do a lot with, and because of that, it adds a little bit of a dimension to our defense that many others can’t have.”
Even when speaking to the NY Post, Carter II admitted that he feels like he’s underrated. However, that doesn’t deter his confidence about being one of the best slot corners in the NFL. When asked if he felt he was the best nickel cornerback in the NFL, MC2 didn’t hesitate to respond confidently.
“Yeah, I feel like that … I feel like I still have another level to tap into.”
