After all the discussion about the New York Jets’ potential cuts, the team dumped over 30 of their cuts in one fell swoop over an hour after the 4 p.m. ET deadline. Some of the decisions were surprising, while others may change as time goes on.

First, the Jets announced that three players have gone to injured reserve (IR) or the non-football injury (NFI) list.

  • DT Leki Fotu (short-term IR)
  • TE Kenny Yeboah (short-term IR)
  • QB Jordan Travis (NFI)

It’s worth noting that Haason Reddick is on the reserve/did not report list, meaning he does not count against the 53-man roster.

Here is the Jets’ full initial roster. Note that many changes could come in the upcoming days.

Offense (25)

  • QB (2): Aaron Rodgers, Tyrod Taylor
  • RB (4): Breece Hall, Braelon Allen, Isaiah Davis, Israel Abanikanda
  • WR (7): Garrett Wilson, Mike Williams, Allen Lazard, Xavier Gipson, Malachi Corley, Irv Charles, Jason Brownlee
  • TE (2): Tyler Conklin, Jeremy Ruckert
  • OT (5): Tyron Smith, Morgan Moses, Olu Fashanu, Max Mitchell, Carter Warren
  • IOL (5): John Simpson, Joe Tippmann, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Wes Schweitzer, Xavier Newman

Defense (25)

  • EDGE (6): Jermaine Johnson, Will McDonald, Micheal Clemons, Takk McKinley, Braiden McGregor, Eric Watts
  • DT (4): Quinnen Williams, Javon Kinlaw, Solomon Thomas, Leonard Taylor III
  • LB (5): C.J. Mosley, Quincy Williams, Jamien Sherwood, Chazz Surratt, Zaire Barnes
  • CB (6): Sauce Gardner, D.J. Reed, Michael Carter II, Brandin Echols, Qwan’tez Stiggers, Jarrick Bernard-Converse
  • S (4): Chuck Clark, Tony Adams, Ashtyn Davis, Isaiah Oliver

Special teams (3)

  • K (1): Greg Zuerlein
  • P (1): Thomas Morstead
  • LS (1): Thomas Hennessy

Notes

  • Israel Abanikanda likely earned himself a roster spot with his preseason performance.
  • The Jets kept seven wide receivers for the second consecutive season. Irv Charles is their special teams ace, and they seem to really like Jason Brownlee as a developmental prospect.
  • Two tight ends is very thin for the Jets. Expect Anthony Firkser (outright) and Lincoln Sefcik (once he clears waivers) to sign to the practice squad for needed depth.
  • After a strong preseason, Xavier Newman took the second backup interior offensive line spot.
  • The Jets kept three undrafted free-agent defensive linemen. Leonard Taylor’s spot is the most secure after Leki Fotu went on injured reserve. One of Braiden McGregor or Eric Watts will probably lose their spot if and when Reddick reports.
  • There weren’t really surprises in the linebacker, cornerback, and safety rooms.
