McCrary-Ball had a solid preseason performance, playing 93 snaps while recording 12 tackles and earning a coverage grade of 77.6, according to Pro Football Focus. However, his efforts were insufficient to earn a spot on the Jets 53-man roster, prompting the linebacker to sign with the team’s practice squad.
The 25-year-old was elevated for the Jets Week 3 matchup against the New England Patriots last week, where he played all 14 of his snaps on special teams and recorded a special teams grade of 74.2 at PFF.
McCary-Ball appeared in two games for the Jets last season and took 19 special teams snaps.
The Indiana product signed with the San Francisco 49ers as an undrafted free agent following the 2022 NFL draft. He spent two summers there before signing with the Jets during the 2023 season.
As for Hector, he played 115 snaps during the preseason while recording seven tackles and five pressures. Despite a solid effort, Hector could not earn a spot on the team’s 53-man roster, prompting the defensive tackle to sign with the team’s practice squad. The USF product will be making his 2024 regular season debut on Sunday.
Hector signed with the Philadelphia Eagles following the 2018 NFL draft. In his professional career, he has played for the Eagles, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Tennessee Titans, and Detroit Lions, in addition to an XFL stint with the Arlington Renegades.
Hector has appeared in 16 career NFL games, recording 11 tackles, 0.5 sacks, and two quarterback hits.
As the Jets prepare to face the Broncos, Hector and McCrary-Ball will join the action this Sunday.
