The New York Jets suffered a brutal 10-9 home loss to the Denver Broncos as 7.5-point favorites.
While addressing the media following the team’s rough loss, Jets head coach Robert Saleh denied that the team had a “letdown,” defending the team’s preparation for Denver.

“No, I felt we had a great week of prep. I felt great energy in the locker room pregame and even at halftime. Defensively, we came out and played really well, and offensively, it wasn’t up to our standard. The reality is, it was going to be tough sledding no matter what with the way the rain was coming down; what was disappointing was the self-inflicted wounds that came with it.”
Saleh made it clear that penalties killed the team’s performance.
“Obviously, it was sloppy,” Saleh said. “A lot of pre-snap penalties. They [Broncos] are already a good defense, but we made it easier for them with just a lack of execution. We had opportunities first and a goal from the one. We have to be able to put it in, and we didn’t. We had the ball twice with a chance to win, and we didn’t. Whether withstanding, you got to play detailed, when it is sloppy outside, you got to be detailed, and we had too many self-inflicted wounds.”
The Jets were called for 15 penalties as a team, and 13 were accepted for a total of 90 yards. When asked about the penalties, Saleh responded, “We’ve got to figure it out.”
The Jets fell to 2-2 on the season and now face a challenging schedule ahead. They will take on former Jets first-round pick Sam Darnold and the undefeated Minnesota Vikings at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Following that matchup, the Jets host the 3-1 Buffalo Bills for Monday Night Football before heading to Pittsburgh to face the 3-1 Steelers on Sunday Night Football in Week 7.
