Davante Adams is officially a New York Jet, and we’ve got the video to prove it.
In a clip shared by the team’s official X account, Adams can be seen taking the practice field in Florham Park, N.J., alongside edge rusher Will McDonald (who is currently tied for second in the NFL in sacks).
The No. 17 jersey was previously donned by third-round rookie receiver Malachi Corley. According to the team’s official website, Corley now wears jersey No. 14. The Western Kentucky product has played in only three games this year and was a healthy scratch for each of the team’s past three contests. He has just one reception on the year. It seems likely that Adams and Corley negotiated some sort of agreement for the number swap.
As for Adams, he is expected to make his Jets debut on Sunday against the Steelers, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Adams has recovered from the hamstring injury that sidelined him over the past three weeks and is ready to take the field with his new teammates.
Adams will seek to supplement a Jets offense that showed major signs of improvement in its latest outing, but still has a long way to go. In their first game following the firing of Robert Saleh and the demotion of Nathaniel Hackett, the Jets posted 393 yards and 20 first downs while six of their nine drives ended with either a touchdown or a field goal attempt, but they struggled mightily in the red zone, scoring one touchdown on four trips.
The Jets’ wide receiver unit is now comprised of Adams, Garrett Wilson, Allen Lazard, Mike Williams, Xavier Gipson, Irvin Charles, and Malachi Corley. It is, undoubtedly, one of the most talented pass-catching units the Jets have bestowed in franchise history. Now it’s time to turn into tangible results, and that all starts on the practice field, where Adams and his teammates turned in their first of three consecutive practice days on Wednesday.
