On Thursday, ESPN radio host, former New York Giant, and notorious New York Jets hater Chris Canty described quarterback Aaron Rodgers as a “cancer.”
“The last couple of years in Green Bay, we suspected Aaron Rodgers could be a little bit toxic, especially with a young team,” Canty said. “I had no idea that it would be this bad. I mean, this guy is like a cancer that has metastasized within the New York Jets organization. And I don’t know how they fix it.”
As Rodgers continues to emerge as one of the most polarizing figures in sports, analysts like Canty will always aim to take shots at him. Canty was not the only ESPN analyst this week to criticize Rodgers. Dominique Foxworth and Jeff Saturday trashed the 40-year-old for him “sending messages” through “The Pat McAfee Show,” where Rodgers makes a weekly appearance despite telling his teammates to “stop listening to the media.”
Following the Jets’ crushing Week 6 loss to the division-rival Buffalo Bills, Rodgers called out wide receiver Mike Williams on McAfee’s show for running the wrong route.
“I have a lot of love and respect for Mike,” Rodgers said. “He’s done some nice things for us, but in that play, he wasn’t in the right spot. You can make more of that if you want to, but we should all be held to a standard.”
While Rodgers undoubtedly has much love for his teammates, in a season clouded with controversy, his words seem to do as much damage as the losses piling up on the Jets’ record.
