After seemingly finding their new kicker, the New York Jets will have to fill the position once again.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs are signing kicker Spencer Shrader to their active roster. This move coincides with the reigning AFC champions placing kicker Harrison Butker on injured reserve with a knee injury.
Shrader made both of his field goal attempts in his lone game for the Jets last Sunday, coming from 25 and 45 yards.

This means the Jets will go with Anders Carlson as their kicker on Sunday against Indianapolis.
Additionally, ESPN’s Rich Cimini said that the Jets did offer Shrader a spot on their active roster.
“The Jets, in an attempt to keep Shrader, did offer him a spot on the 53. He opted to go kick for an undefeated team, which is understandable. However, it probably will be only a 4-game gig in KC (until Butker returns). If he had stayed with the Jets, it might have turned into something longer. So they will go with Carlson on Sunday.”
The Jets signed Carlson to their practice squad last week. A sixth-round pick of the Packers in 2023, Carlson has played 21 combined regular season and playoff games in the NFL, making 82.9% of his field goal attempts and 86.3% of his extra points. Carlson kicked in two games for the 49ers this season, making 5-of-5 field goals (including both from 50+ yards) and 3-of-4 extra points.
Carlson will have a chance to keep the Jets’ season alive with a good performance. As an added bonus, Carlson could take over the Jets’ kicker spot for the rest of the season.
