As the New York Jets search for their head coach of the future, former NFL quarterback Chris Simms threw in his two cents.
Appearing on the “The Dan Patrick Show,” the current NBC Sports analyst endorsed former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel for the job, who was dubbed “Bill Parcells Jr.” by the former third-round pick.

“There are a lot of great candidates out there,” Simms said. “But if I am the New York Jets, I am calling Mike Vrabel. Vrabel is made for New York; he is Bill Parcells Jr., and he will get that organization back on track. Vrabel is my number one guy.”
Vrabel seems to be viewed as a frontrunner for several head coaching jobs this offseason. The former linebacker spent six seasons as the Titans’ head coach from 2018 to 2023. During Vrabel’s six seasons in Tennessee, the team racked up four winning seasons and two division titles.
Following a disappointing 6-11 season in 2023, Tennessee canned the 2021 Coach of the Year. After being fired from the Titans organization, Vrabel joined the Cleveland Browns organization as a consultant.
Comparing Vrabel to Parcells is quite the endorsement. Chris Simms’ father, Phil, played quarterback for the New York Giants under Parcells for eight seasons. Parcells led the Giants to two Super Bowl victories and a 77-49 record, including 8-3 in the playoffs.
Parcells then became the Jets’ head coach from 1997-1999 and completely revived the franchise. The former Giants head coach led Vinny Testaverde and the 1998 Jets to a 12-4 regular season record and an appearance in the AFC championship game.
In the coming weeks, expect many others to join Simms in their endorsement of Vrabel for the Jets’ head coaching vacancy.
