Terron Armstead wasn’t in the AFC East for very long, but the New York Jets got an up close and personal look at how good the five-time Pro Bowler has been throughout his career.
Armstead played in 38 games for the Dolphins and reached two Pro Bowls as he helped Miami reach the playoffs during the 2022 and 2023 seasons. Brought in to be the finishing piece to an elite offense, the team was never able to win a playoff game during the last three years.
And now, Armstead is ready to call it a career.
Jets’ AFC East Retirement Announcement
Armstead announced his retirement Saturday evening after a 12-year career, most of those coming as a Pro Bowl player with the New Orleans Saints.
Ian Rapoport was first on the news.
Taken in the third round of the 2013 draft, Armstead built a reputation of being a quality starter around the league. Armstead signed a five-year, $75 million deal with the Dolphins in the 2022 offseason. He suffered a knee injury twice in the Dolphins’ victory over the Jets on December 8 of last season.
Patrick Paul was the team’s second-round pick in 2024 and is expected to be a strong possibility to replace Armstead moving forward. Miami has needs across their offensive line, though, so Armstead’s retirement could end up putting the Dolphins back in the tackle game for the 2025 draft.
This means the Jets will need to decide whether to take one of the better tackles in the draft class or risk them falling to Miami later on.
