Top 3 Keys to know entering Jets’ draft night

The New York Jets have obvious needs heading into the 2025 draft and that leaves their preparation relatively simple.

We are officially under two weeks away from the start of the 2025 draft.

A new era of New York Jets football may already be underway with Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey in control, but the first true test of the duo will be made with the seventh overall pick in the selection process.

And while certain things can change in nine days, there are three certainties to expect from New York heading into the draft.

1. Jets Will Target Offensive Line Early

After drafting Olu Fashanu in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, expect the Jets to target another tackle in 2025. They still have a hole to fill at right tackle.

The top tackles in the 2025 class include players like Armand Membou and Will Campbell. There is a drop-off between the top two and prospects such as Donovan Jackson, Aireontae Ersery, and Josh Conerly.

As good as the second-tier players are, they represent the cut-off of potential Week 1 starters, and they could all go within the first few picks of the second round.

That means the Jets are going to take a tackle early in this draft class, whether in round one or round two. It’s just a question of who and when exactly.

2. A QB Will Be Selected

Much like the offensive line question, the Jets are going to be selecting a quarterback at some point in the 2025 draft. Once again, it is just a matter of who and when.

New York is giving Justin Fields the opportunity to show he can be the franchise quarterback, but they would be smart to also draft a mid-round signal-caller to try and develop the right way.

Fans may want someone like Kyle McCord due to his Jets ties growing up, but it won’t really matter who it is. New York is expected to take a quarterback in this draft.

3. Instant Reactions Are Meaningless

The 2023 draft class for the Jets was universally criticized by fans simply because they felt the draft selection of Will McDonald was a reach, and center Joe Tippmann wasn’t the best center available to them.

The top of the 2023 class, through two seasons at least, has looked far better than fans could have hoped.

This goes to show how meaningless the fans’ instant reactions are. Draft classes and Super Bowls aren’t won the day those picks are made. It takes years to truly determine how good a prospect can be.

Fans need to be patient with whoever ends up being the Jets’ pick in the 2025 draft.
