The New York Jets made their second addition to the interior defensive line on Wednesday, a move that signals they are not finished reshaping the roster ahead of cutdown day.

First reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Jets have acquired defensive tackle Harrison Phillips alongside a 2027 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2026 sixth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round draft selection.

This move comes hours after the team acquired second-year defensive tackle Jowon Briggs from the Cleveland Browns.

Phillips, 29, is set to enter his eighth NFL season after being selected by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2018 draft.

Last season, the 29-year-old appeared in all 17 games (all starts), while posting 56 total tackles (two for loss) with two sacks, five quarterback hits, four pass deflections, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery, including a 54.0 run defense grade courtesy of Pro Football Focus.

Phillipsโ€™ arrival gives the Jets a proven, durable presence up front at a time when depth is a priority. The veteran has started 62 games across seven seasons with the Bills and Vikings, known more for his run-stopping strength than pass-rushing production.

The Jets will only have to pay half of his salary, making him count for only $3.7 million against Gang Green’s cap this season.

Phillipsโ€™ addition gives the Jets a reliable run-stopper with starting experience in exchange for only a couple of late-round picks, while the contract terms make the move even more appealing for New York.
